The ZipTour at Mt. Bachelor, Bend, Oregon
ZIPtour® Operation
Engineered for Performance, Reliability, and Safety
Rider-Controlled Adventure, Elevated Tour Design
The ZipTour® system stands apart from traditional canopy tours by giving guests control over their speed and ride experience. Its patented ZipTour® trolley allows riders to modulate their descent dynamically—accelerating for a thrilling run or slowing down to take in the scenery. This level of interactivity is unique to ZipTour® and transforms every span into a personalized adventure.
A Multi Stage Tour Built for Terrain and Flexibility
Each ZipTour® installation is designed as a multi-stage journey that guides guests from summit to base area through a series of zip line spans connected by short, scenic walks. Spans can be engineered as long and steep as a ZipRider®, and can include multiple parallel cables for side by side riding. Because the rider-controlled ZipTour® trolley adapts to any span length or profile, the same trolley works across the entire tour without equipment swaps or weight specific assignments—streamlining operations and ensuring consistent, reliable performance. The system requires no power at any station and can be installed in phases over multiple seasons, giving destinations exceptional flexibility in planning and expansion.
A Smooth, Intuitive Guest Flow
Every ZipTour® begins with guests being fitted with a harness, helmet, and lanyard system, along with a custom backpack to carry their ZipTour® trolley between spans. Before the tour begins, guides provide hands-on training to ensure each rider understands how to operate the trolley confidently and safely.
Once on the line, guests enjoy the freedom to shape their own experience—interacting with friends on adjacent cables or gliding at a slower pace to take in the views. As riders approach each landing platform, they use the trolley’s control handles to slow down and stop over the deck. Guides then lower them gently to the platform, stow the trolley in the backpack, and prepare the group for the walk to the next span.
Engineered for Safety and Reliability
Every ZipTour® installation is designed to meet ASTM F24 amusement ride codes, ANSI B77 tramway standards, and TUV requirements. ZipTour® is the original designer of the graduated spring and spacer terminal brake assembly, and each span is equipped with this system to provide additional stopping assistance when needed. The result is a tour experience that blends rider-controlled freedom with engineered safety and predictable, reliable operations.
